Landscape & Nature

Fresh, cool spring water direct from the heart of the mountains – as clear and clean as it was a thousand years ago. Take a gulp and feel how the energy of the elements fills your mind and soul. Olang’s natural sulphur spring is well known for its health-giving effects. For many hundreds of years the people of Olang have lived at one with nature. For years the climatic spa of Olang has used a community heating system – fed by renewable sources of energy – using technology to strike the right balance between quality of life and environmental sustainability. Which means that future generations will also be able to experience this unspoilt landscape.

District Heating Plant:
Thanks to the initiative of a group of energy-conscious citizens, the political will of the residents of Olang/Valdaora, and the support of the government of the province of South Tyrol, it has proven possible to launch a future-oriented project for the long-term thermal energy security of our town based on sustainable (grown) fuels.
In the meantime, a network of some 20.5 km of district heating pipelines have been installed to serve 510 residential units with thermal energy. It is now customary that every new building – including public buildings, commercial complexes, and private residential dwellings – apply for connection to the district heating network.
Natural wood wastes, wood pellets, and forest chips, exclusively, are used as fuel.

Ski Bus Shuttle Service:
The following six complimentary ski bus shuttle lines are in operation in Olang/Valdaora and its vicinity from late-November until mid-April: No. 21 Mitterolang / Valdaora di Mezzo, No. 22 Niederolang, No. 23 Rasen/Rasun, No. 24 Welsberg / Monguelfo & No. 26 Gsieser Valley / Val di Casies.
This free transit system has enjoyed considerable popularity and has had positive effects not only upon the traffic situation in the area, but of course also on the preservation of the pristine quality of the mountain air.

Guaranteed Snow:
The Kronplatz / Plan de Corones is famed for its optimal snow conditions and the excellent grooming of its slopes. In order to maintain this high level of quality, the use of snow cannons is indispensable.
In order to guarantee first-rate snow conditions in the future, as well, high-performance snow cannons must be employed that can produce snow even if weather conditions are less than optimal.
The beneficial environmental effects of the use of snow cannons are plain:
An adequate blanket of snow isolates the surface of the earth, prevents ground frost in the spring and autumn, and prevents the soil from drying out in the springtime when precipitation is low.
Furthermore, artificial snow protects the vegetation against mechanical effects and physical damage (e.g., by skis or other sports equipment).
Slopes with a proper covering of snow thus make it possible to minimize the use of snow cats to move and distribute the snow, and the risk of injury for sports enthusiasts is lowered.
